The Soviet alliance authorized their field commanders in Cuba to uses tactical nuclear weapons if there were invaded by the U.S. The lives of millions were in the hands of cardinal men, President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev. The only way to stay everyone safe was for the two men to reach a compromise.
The coterminous two weeks consisted almost entirely of deliberation and negotiation. The two countries edged closer and closer to the worlds first nuclear war. The crisis was so intense that it held the entire attention of President Kennedy and all of his closer advisors for two weeks. The citizens of the nation were paralyzed with the fear of a nuclear war being so close.
